The list below is for people who love movies and also have a genuine interest in immigration. These movies are highly entertaining and moving:

1. A Better World (2011) - Talk of Academy Award nominations. Very good.

2. Sin Nombre (2000) - powerful film on Mexican border crossing and immigration from Central America.

3. Under the Same Moon (La Misma Luna) focused on a mother from Mexico and her son - very powerful

4. In America (2003) - 4 star movie, Academy Award nominated about Irish immigrants in New York.

5. The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (2005) - Produced, directed and starring Tommy Lee Jones. A great movie of Texas, the border, Border Patrol and immigration.

6. El Norte (1983) - Guatemalans flee persecution to the U.S.

7. The Visitor (2007) - About undocumented in New York; includes detention scenes.

8. Crossing Over (2009) - Harrison Ford and Ray Liotta star as ICE officers.

9. A Day Without a Mexican (2004) - Makes you think.

10. Lone Star (1996) - Texas story with mystery to solve involving Rio Grande crossings.

11. Godfather II (1974) - Shows a lot of young Italian immigrants pass the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

12. The Border (1982) - Jack Nicholson plays a Border Patrol officer.

13. Lost Boys of Sudan (2003) - About refugees and their story of coming to America.

14. Gangs of New York (2002) - Martin Scorsese's great film about immigrants in New York during Civil War era.

15. Salvador (1986) - James Woods is a journalist in El Salvador during civil war and effort to flee to the U.S.

16. Green Card (1990) - Romantic comedy about contrived marriage with realistic INS interview and outcome.

17. Moscow on the Hudson (1984) - Robin Williams plays a Russian defector.

18. Hester Street (1975) - Academy Award nominated film about Jewish immigration to New York.

19. West of Hester Street (1983) - Jewish immigration through Galveston.

20. Mao's Last Dancer (2010) - About Chinese dancer who seeks to stay in the U.S.
